On getting paid for creative work: Throwing a few F bombs

This video and smart comments at Anna Tarkov’s Posterous advance the frequent discussions about pay and professional and amateur creators. I don’t fully agree with the anger against willing amateurs who drive down rates: Competition is competition, and may the best creator win.

Then again, I admire any creators who have the guts to bargain strongly to get paid what they’re worth.

Supply and demand market forces are always in flux: Let’s hope the best voices win.

  1. Thanks for the input. I don’t fully agree with the anger against willing amateurs either and I’m a fan of the free market in most cases. But then again, the argument for unions is a pretty strong one from my first commenter. And I think the final judgement should be the quality of written work we usually see. Is the work of higher paid professionals superior 9 times out of 1o than unpaid or poorly paid amateurs? I think the answer is yes.
